Lara Raj and Megan Skiendiel, known to queer fans as the bisexual baddies of international girl group KATSEYE, are setting the record straight this Pride — but not literally. In an interview for Allure’s June cover, the pair spoke about the impact of discussing their queerness publicly as members of one of the most famous pop groups on the planet.
With that massive success has come hypervisibility and, at times, intense scrutiny. When Raj publicly came out as queer while chatting with fans on South Korean social media platform Weverse in March 2025, fans rejoiced. Skiendiel followed suit in June of last year, coming out as bisexual after Raj prompted her during a Live on Weverse.
However, in recent months, some people online have come after both pop stars, in some cases accusing them of “queerbaiting” and generally erasing Raj’s and Skiendiel’s bisexuality, especially after rumors began to circulate about the two having boyfriends. During the interview with Allure, Raj and Skiendeil both made it clear that they won’t be having any bisexual erasure, especially during Pride Month.
“I like everyone, I will date anyone,” Raj said. “I think people really try to invalidate that because of who we currently or have publicly dated. But I’ve dated so many girls, and it’s such a beautiful experience to be with women, and it’s something that is a very core and important part of me that will always be with me for the rest of my life.”
There’s no doubt that the group has broken barriers in both the K-pop and global music industries, both in terms of queer representation within Katseye and not being afraid to openly support LGBTQ+ rights. Katseye performances frequently show the girls jumping around with various Pride flags; songs like “Mean Girls” explicitly shout-out trans women; and the music video for hit single “Pinky Up,” even featured a group of other trans creators such as Vivian Wilson, Mel 4Ever, Vhex, Saturn Risin9, and Katalina. Raj has also been spotted sporting “Protect The Dolls” merch on stage.
Still, critics have dissected Raj and Skiendiel’s sexualities publicly and questioned theory validity as queer representation. But the pair told Allure they won’t let the noise get to them.
“I came out as bisexual, but me dating men doesn’t take that away from me. My first relationship was with a girl, but [the fans] don't know that,” Skiendiel said. “I feel like people should just be able to be who they are no matter what. When it comes to race, identity, whatever, if that’s who you are, then be who the fuck you are and no one should take that away from you.”
