Emily Hampshire and Demi Lovato are just friends. Just friends who love to joke about how they're attracted to each other and wouldn't mind dating each other, you know, if things were different.
When the Schitt's Creek star appeared on the 4D With Demi Lovato podcast, the two tight besties had a conversation full of laughter, understanding, and support. And, they also teased us all with some information about their flirty friend relationship.
At about 34 minutes into the interview, Hampshire shyly asks if she can say how they met, which immediately causes Demi to break out in laughter.
"So I have to say, you DMed me," Hampshire revealed, "You said, 'Hey girl, I like you on the show. We should kick it sometime.' And then, below it you said, 'And by kick it, I mean go on a date. I find you attractive,' or whatever."
Hampshire laughed and said she appreciated the clarification, "I'm decades older than you, so 'kick it,' I was like looking it up," she admitted to Lovato. Hampshire is only about 11 years older, but that didn't stop Lovato from saying "just think of Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor," the famous lesbian couple with a 32-year age gap.
"Look, a nonbinary person can dream, you know what I mean," Demi laughed.
"I wish you weren't 29," Hampshire responded. They also "joked" around how they're both single right now and that Lovato is still definitely attracted to Hampshire. "It wasn't that I wasn't attracted to you," Hampshire also admitted! (Haha, jk, unless...)
The two continued to bring up the Holland Taylor-Sarah Paulson comparison, with Lovato revealing they were scrambling so hard to apologize that they were sending Hampshire voice memos backtracking the comparison.
Eventually, the two met each other in person at the Grammys, and have been close friends ever since.
I'm gonna say it: eleven years isn't that big of an age difference when you're at the point in your lives that Hampshire and Lovato are. I think we'd all love to see these two get together! It's not too late to be the Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson of your dreams!
