Gay Thirst Trap Jeff Goldblum Danced to Normani at Southern Decadence

“Gay Mardi Gras” has become increasingly hetero, but this video is gay rights.

Over Labor Day weekend in New Orleans, thousands of queers congregated to celebrate Southern Decadence, known to some as "gay Mardi Gras." Since its inception in 1972, Decadence has been a weekend for LGBTQ+ partygoers to converge on the city and indulge in all the pleasures it has to offer. As I learned when I attended this year's festivities over the weekend, Decadence also serves as a way for local queers to celebrate the end of the slow season -- tourism grinds to a halt during the brutal Louisiana summer.

But in recent years, more and more cishetero folks have been infiltrating this queer event. During my stay at the Ace Hotel, I encountered at least one straight person for every two queer folks. The Country Club, a formerly clothing-optional community space and bar, was overrun by straight men spiking inflatable balls in the packed pool (I deflated as many as I could get my hands on). It seems that the jig is indeed up -- whether it was the simple fact of it being Labor Day weekend in New Orleans, Friday night's Backstreet Boys concert, or an alleged sports game beer-swilling bros kept talking about in the elevator, the straights know about Decadence. They're here, they're not queer, get used to it.

But there is a silver lining! One of those straights attending Decadence was none other than bespectacled sex symbol Jeff Goldblum, who watched the parade from atop a house in the historic French Quarter. A visiting promoter happened to catch Goldblum enjoying the festivities in the absolute best way possible: dancing to Normani's "Motivation."

What's not to love about this video? Goldblum, clad in clashing animal prints, does the textbook definition of dad dancing, swaying awkwardly but endearingly to one of summer's biggest bops. If Goldblum wasn't already a gay thirst trap, he certainly is now.
