Though a newcomer to advocacy, extremely vocal LGBTQ+ ally Taylor Swift may have released a coded message about her own sexuality in a new Instagram post, or at least that’s what some of her fans believe.
In a post promoting her new album Lover, Swift wears several bracelets with charms that spell out her various interests. One is for her cat “Benji,” another is for her favorite thing to do, which is to be “fearless.” And yet another bravely spells out “proud,” which Swift certainly has become since releasing her ally anthem “You Need to Calm Down” in June, the video for which featured RuPaul, Billy Porter, the Queer Eye Fab Five, Katy Perry, and every other gay A-lister Swift could find.
But fans believe the bracelet is about more than just showing her support for the queer community — it’s a message that Swift is queer herself, according to them. The word “proud” on her bracelet is surrounded by blue, pink, and purple beads. And guess what the colors of the bisexual flag are? That’s right, bitch.
“taylor swift just posted this,” tweeted one Swiftie. “DOES ANYBODY ELSE SEE THE BRACELET THAT SAYS PROUD AND IT HAS THE BI FLAG COLORS!!!!! I CANT STAY CALM!!!! SHES GONNA COME OUT IM CALLING IT NOW!!!!!”
This is yet another round of speculation about whether Swift is dropping bisexual Easter eggs into her promo. Fans thought that her wig in the “You Need to Calm Down” video, which also features the bisexual flag colors, was Swift flagging her sexuality, but Pride came and went without Swift admitting she likes girls. Maybe she’s waiting until she can make sure the news turns Lover into a chart-topper? Or maybe a bracelet is just a bracelet.
