Anohni's Month-Long Future Feminism Workshop Might Save Our World

"Future Feminism is a set of provocations that place a female sensibility and feminine consciousness at the center of the future survival of all species."

As the 2017 European Capital of Culture, Aarhus, Denmark has tapped Anohni as their Artist-in-Residence. She'll present her Future Feminism festival in the city running from August 11 to September 3, as a call "for the emergence of a feminine collective consciousness that might save what remains of our world."

Future Feminism was originally shown in 2014, where it became widely known for its "13 Tenets of Feminism," most famously #13: "The Future is Female." For the 2017 iteration, Anohni has enlisted NYC-based collaborators Kembra Pfahler and Johanna Constantine to present "13 monolithic works," and 25 performances and events.

The festival will be mounted at the exhibition gallery, O Space, in Aarhus.

"The performance practice of Anohni has been recognized the world over for its corporeal, visceral delivery of raw, urgent truths and passions," says program director Juliana Engberg. "She is also a generous seeker and instigator of collaborative ideas, energies and expressions. For Anohni, truth-seeking is an insistent and porous pursuit in which the energies of others offer a sense of society and a possible set of solutions. Future Feminism is a set of provocations that place a female sensibility and feminine consciousness at the center of the future survival of all species."
