"Timing Is Everything" begins with Lights, mainstream Canadian pop singer Valerie Anne Poxleitner, gearing up to work out at a 24-hour gym. It's a flashy, semi-sweat video that appears as the classic "guy-meets-girl-on-the-mechanical-bike" gym story. But around the 1:20 mark, guy actually meets guy and the video takes a different turn.
Rarely are same-sex couples depicted in pop music videos, aside from the casual kiss or hook-up (re: P!nk's 2012 hit music video "Raise Your Glass"). Lights' addition of the gay couple in her video paves the way for more honest and authentic approaches for pop musicians to create videos that appeal to wider audiences.
