Editor's note: this post contains MAJOR spoilers for the season 14 finale of RuPaul's Drag Race.
Angeria Paris VanMicheals, Bosco, Daya Betty, Lady Camden, and Willow Pill fought fiercely to win RuPaul's Drag Race season 14, but only one of them has been crowned a winner, baby!
Going into this Drag Race finale, Bosco and Camden were tied for three maxi challenge wins each. However, it's worth noting that Bosco had two bottom placements and was essentially sent home but was then saved thanks to this season's "chocolate golden bar" twist. In turn, Camden won three challenges and only fell into the bottom after the Snatch Game, which featured seven of the eight remaining queens lip syncing for their lives.
Season 14 BFFs VanMicheals and Pill had similar track records prior to the grand finale of Drag Race. VanMicheals won two challenges, whereas Pill only won one. With that said, both queens had two bottom placements that took place in the same episodes: the first time after Snatch Game, and the second time in the "ru-mix" challenge. The weakest track record among the top five finalists came from Betty, who only one maxi challenge in the season but fell into the bottom three times.
Nonetheless, for the first time in Drag Race herstory, all five queens battled it out at the grand finale to snatch the title of America's Next Drag Superstar. This resulted in a slight change of format for the episode: each queen performed a solo number and a top two was then chosen based on those performances. Then, the two finalists went head-to-head to lip sync for the crown.
And one queen, in particular, came out on top...
Willow Pill is the winner of Drag Race season 14! Pill received a lot of praise from RuPaul throughout the season, which is always the sign of a queen who's going to make it very far. She also garnered the most fan-favoritism out of all the queens, far outpacing her co-stars in the number of Instagram likes and Twitter likes ahead of the finale.
“She’s not a big pill, she’s a WINNER baby! 💊✨ Condragulations to the winner of #DragRace Season 14, @WillowPillQueen! 👑”— RuPaul's Drag Race (@RuPaul's Drag Race) 1650677460
Alas, Pill only won a single maxi challenge on the show, which had some fans questioning whether she would have what it takes to snatch the crown of Drag Race season 14. Well, against all odds, Pill outperformed her competitors at the finale and has now been crowned America's Next Drag Superstar.
After five years of lip-sync-for-the-crown smackdowns dominating the grand finales of RuPaul's Drag Race, season 14 introduced a refreshing twist to this formula. By having the final five queens prepare individuals numbers for themselves, each of the finalists was able to craft out a performance that worked for their own style of drag.
Meanwhile, the general spirit of "anything can happen" was still kept alive as the episode still came down to an epic lip sync for the crown between the top two queens of the night. Now, a 14th queen has officially entered the winners' circle of regular seasons of Drag Race. All hail your reigning queen!
