Sarah Paulson Will Only Return to ‘AHS’ If Evan Peters Does

“If he’ll come back, I’m back.”

Sarah Paulson has gone back and forth recently about her potential return to American Horror Story, and now she's said she'll only come back to the horror anthology if her former co-star Evan Peters does as well.

Paulson announced earlier this year that she would be sitting out AHS: 1984, and Peters was quick to follow. While the actress teased a potential cameo, she later confirmed that she would not, in fact, be appearing on the latest installment. However, she left the door open for the future. "I think the star of American Horror Story is American Horror Story itself," Paulson told Variety.

"The show is the thing and I think you can get a whole different group of actors and people will still watch it," she added. "I think that's the extraordinary thing that Ryan created, and I would love to be a part of it. One time, I said I'd like it be to vampires in space when I'm 99 and I hope the show is still going then."

Now, Paulson has shared withTV Guide that "it's hard to not be a part of" the show and that she'd "love to" return for the upcoming 10th season. "I need to be a part of it again," she said. " [...] I would like to do something with Evan [Peters]. I miss Evan and I miss acting with Evan. So I'd love to have that experience again. If he'll come back, I'm back."

In May, Peters confirmed to Extrathat he would "sit this season out" and confessed to GQin 2018 that years of playing evil characters was taking its toll on his mental health.

"It's been all a massive stretch for me and really difficult to do," Peters said. "It's hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There's this massive amount of rage that's been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that's been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I'm sick. I don't feel good."

Paulson, meanwhile, has been working on Murphy's upcoming show Ratched, which expands the story of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest's infamous nurse. It's expected to premiere on Netflix in 2020.

American Horror Story: 1984is currently airing on FX.
