Hari Nef: Please Stop Introducing Me As a 'Trans Actress'

Hari Nef has a message for "journalists and also everyone else": stop categorizing her as a "trans actress." The Transparent star is making her feature debut this month in Assassination Nation and is challenging the media to change the way it tokenizes actors who happen to be transgender.

Nef echoes comments made by Kim Petras, who told the Guardian that it's "hard not to get completely reduced to being transgender," and later explained to HuffPost that she's "never written a song specifically about being transgender." In a post-visibility world, artists are demanding to be acknowledged for their work rather than their identity -- just like everyone else.
