Ryan Murphy Raises Questions with AHS: Coven Reunion Photo

We're on the edge of our seats for the upcoming eighth season of American Horror Story. Set in the not-too-distant future, this season's theme is Apocalypse.

A mash-up of season one's Murder House and the third season's Coven, a few details have come to light. Michael, the anti-christ child spawned at the end of the first season is now all grown up. And in addition to many of our favorite returning castmembers, Jessica Lange is finally coming back to revive her role as Constance from Murder House.

We might be even more excited for the return of some of our favorite Coven characters. According to a tweet from Ryan Murphy, it appears that the entire coven might actually be returning. He recently posted a photo from set with Taissa Farmiga, Gabourey Sidibe, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, and even the witchy Stevie Nicks herself.

Although we knew the cast was returning, we can't help but wonder the circumstances. Seeing as three of these characters died during Coven, how could they all be together? And with a theme like Apocalypse, we assume the world may come to an end, which might make it difficult to set it before Queenie's death in season five's Hotel.

But a quote from the show's executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall at this month's TCA panel may have given us a clue. “The story begins with the end of the world, and then our world begins,” she said. Perhaps they're all dead, and this is a photo from the afterlife?
