It's a tradition every year: the ugly sweater party. And though it's as predictable as any other recurring holiday event, it seems to come as a surprise to us--plus who really wants to wear an ugly sweater? In their latest collection, the Los Angeles-based, on-the-rise brand No Sesso has made the case for not-so-ugly options. Released on Depop, the sweaters come as a part of an overall holiday capsule collection that spans new and old product.
"In April we did a collaboration and a lot of that stuff sold out within 30 minutes" Pierre Rashard, No Sesso founder and designer, told OUT. "So we had a few pieces from that left over that we wanted to bring back for the holidays. Plus there's some classic embroidery pieces that are No Sesso staples."
While the label prepares for a to-be-announced project in February, here we narrowed down some of our favorites from the holiday launch, perfect for wearing year-round. Rashard tells us a little bit about them.
"We did our own version of Cindy Lou Who... How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an iconic movie--the looks are so major and the hairstyles are so fab. In a lot of the collections that I've done this year, I've paid attention to hair so much. When I was growing up, my mom had lots of hair magazines and I would just draw the images. So we interpreted Cindy Lou with a really fab hairstyle, but the No Sesso version." ($90 sweatshirt, $75 shirt)
"In every collection we have an LA sweater. We started working with our own textile and knitting the sweater out of that material. For the holidays, we brought that out in more festive colors." ($100)
"This is me and Arin Hayes who works with the brand. He does all of the casting and direction, so we have our faces here like a cartoon version in a holiday look." ($90 sweatshirt, $75 t-shirt)
"I think a lot of us still connect to the brand because I make most of the pieces myself--so they get to have pieces no one else will have. Even if it's the same batch of t-shirts, they are all going to be different. This was from our show last year. We reworked on some Prairie Underground pieces through a collaboration with them." ($200)
"There's a streetwear brand here in LA called No Stress run by Asma and Prince Will. They are in a DJ collective and make a lot of the music for the No Sesso runway shows. The art is a drawing of a girl that I did, screaming because she's stressed out. That's only sold at Depop in America, currently." ($70)
