The New Sabrina the Teenage Witch Sounds Very Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Since it was announced that a new macabre take on Sabrina the Teenage Witch was coming in the form of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, fangirls have been bugging out imagining what this dark new take on the half-mortal, half-witch schoolgirl would look like. The show, which would ostensibly be linked to fellow Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale, would be based on the comic series of the same name, which reimagines the teen sorceress in a take that's less Practical Magic and more The VVitch.

Now, a casting call for the lead role has made its way online, courtesy of That Hashtag Show.

Sabrina is an half-human, half-witch,empowered young woman just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Sabrina's intelligent, compassionate, and brave to the point of recklessness.

She is fiercely loyal to her family and friends; wickedly funny and in the middle of a star-crossed romance with her classmate Harvey Kinkle. She challenges witch-doctrine at every turn. She is all that stands between us an the Forces of Darkness that threaten our world.

That last bit is almost word-for-word lifted from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and that for one makes me incredibly excited for this update on Sabrina. If the show is anything like Riverdale, there will be plenty of sexy teen angst and murder mysteries to keep things exciting.
