WATCH: Mother Surprises Trans Daughter With First Dose of Hormones
The 14-year-old transgender girl has waited two years to start hormone therapy.
In a viral video, Detroit mother Erica Maison surprised her trans teenage daughter, Corey with the 14-year-old's first dose of hormones. The adorable video captures Corey's emotional reaction just before she embraces her mother.
Erica told Buzzfeed:
"We were both crying and shaking. She literally took my breath away, as she has never given me a hug like that before. I have never felt so much love from her than that moment. It was a mixture of pure joy and relief from us both."
After years of Corey trying to discover herself, she and her mother came across a YouTube video of Jazz Jennings when Corey was 11. That's when she realized she too was transgender.
Having found a therapist that specializes in transgender children, Corey and her mother went through the appropriate channels to begin hormone therapy. When Erica received the call Sept 24 that Corey's estrogen prescription was ready, she caught her daughter's reaction on video:
