You know that embarrassing (probably scatalogical) story you love to tell your friends after a few drinks? The one that always gets some laughs, along with moans of commiseration? Well now you have a place to share it with the wider world (if you dare). Filmmaker Stephen Dunn has translated three such anonymous online hookups into whimsical, animated "pop-up book" shorts for his Pop-Up Porno project.
Described as "meaningful and humiliating human experiences derived through true online-dating horror stories," all three films premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and last night "m4m" screened before the world premiere of Dunn's first feature-length movie, Closet Monster, at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Dunn was on-hand for the TIFF premiere, along with the stellar cast -- including Connor Jessup and Aliocha Schneider -- of the queer coming-of-age film set in Canada and, although none of the stories in the sexy shorts, he did say there was some personal references in Closet Monster, which deals with a hate crime and identity issues.
