Jennifer Lawrence's upcoming role in Joy may be her most real and cynical to date. The character has a very "nothing is owed to you" built-everything-she-has-herself attitude, and that's not a bad trope to revisit in a millennial society.
We get to see a bit more backstory for her character, including her father's (Robert De Niro) disapproval of her husband-to-be, on her wedding day no less. We also get a peek at Isabella Rossellini asking Lawrence's character if she'd shoot an adversary if she was locked in the room with them. Spoiler: she says yes.
