On Star Trek: Discovery and now Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, actor, comedian, writer, and producer Tig Notaro plays the cocky, brilliant, dry-witted, and queer Commander Jett Reno — the other half of a lesbian couple with costar and fellow comic Gina Yashere.
This year, the Mississippi native joined the cast of Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story anthology series, and next year will be seen in Judd Apatow’s The Comeback King along with the film adaptation of the romance novel Beach Read. “I'm also developing an all-lesbian action film with director Zack Snyder called Deviants,” she adds.
In addition to co-hosting the weekly podcast Handsome, Notaro is currently on a nationwide comedy tour. And in October, Notaro and wife Stephanie Allynne celebrated 11 years of marriage.
The breast cancer survivor says she quit social media this year following “several extraordinary challenges,” and then hiked the Rocky Mountains to reflect on what she calls the sweet spot: “When everything else falls away except for what matters, who matters, and how I want to live my life.”
Notaro’s message to the world is a list of three things: “One: In love, life, and work, learn to choose transparent people who value you — otherwise, keep it movin'! Two: The best gift you can give anyone is a well-lived life of your own. Three: Always, always, always keep a sense of humor about yourself.” @handsomepod
