Two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Ashlyn Harris has become a powerful force in the fight for gender equity in sports. In 2022, she helped the U.S. Women’s National Team secure a historic $24 million settlement and retired from professional soccer shortly after.
Harris now splits her time between L.A. and New York with her two children and wife, actress Sophia Bush, and serves on the boards of the Women’s Sports Foundation and the Human Rights Campaign. Harris also has a podcast on iHeartRadio and a new autobiographical documentary, Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story, on Roku.
“I’ve spent a lot of my life fighting for visibility and equality in sport, but today visibility means something even bigger to me,” Harris says. “It’s building a life with Sophia and our kids and allowing people to see a queer family that is loving, beautiful, joyful, ambitious, and completely ordinary at the same time.”
“Don’t shrink yourself to make other people comfortable” is her message to Out readers. “Our visibility matters — not because every queer person has to be loud or public, but because every time we live openly and fully, we expand what’s possible for someone coming behind us.” @ashlynharris24
