Ross Mathews has built a career on sounding like himself. His delight is unmistakable whether he is talking with a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, judging a runway on RuPaul’s Drag Race, or guiding a 90 Day Fiancé Tell All through its latest revelation.
It is a remarkable realization of the dreams he had as a kid. “The work I do is about being joyful and curious and honest,” the Emmy-winning host and producer says. “I’m constantly trying to make the dreams I had since I was a kid come true. So far, so good.”
Across those shows, Mathews brings humor and a willingness to listen. His enthusiasm makes room for other people to be funny, vulnerable, or surprising too. That quality has carried him across television formats without asking him to set aside the personality audiences first came to know.
For Mathews, that freedom has a lesson beyond the screen. “I want people to realize the power of being authentic,” he says. “People can sense when you are and they respond to it in beautiful and surprising ways.”
He lives in New York with his husband, Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews, and their senior chihuahua, Audrey. @helloross
