Whether she’s dragging TJ Maxx for not supplying clothing for the “plus-size dolls” or laughing as RuPaul and Raven “pay her dust” in the club, Lushious Massacr is sure to brighten your day. But the Emmy-winning makeup artist (We’re Here) and YouTube sensation is much more than a comedy queen.
Lushious starts each of her acclaimed “Dragvestigation” videos with a heartfelt call to action, celebrating marginalized people like trans women, migrant Americans, sex workers, and “the bricks” (her affectionate term for people who don’t “pass” as women, or people who are just struggling). And of course, she’s the originator of the now gay-famous quip, “Don’t do it, little girl!”
“I’m a crossdresser who likes to make people smile and not feel ashamed of themselves,” Lushious says. “I love to make videos to show we are out here, we like to pull trade sometimes, and we are good people.”
Her message to the world as an Out100 honoree? “Angry, insecure people will bully you for being different. They will resent you for it. Be you and make yourself happy, and remember that you’re free. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do or how to do it.”
As for what’s next, Lushious says, “I want to continue to heal wounds and tell stories so I can help other people heal wounds too. It’s time we started to heal.” @lushiousmassacr
