Lola Petticrew delivered the sort of television performance this year that critics will talk about for years to come.
The nonbinary actor and activist, who hails from Northern Ireland, holds their own opposite Emmy Rossum in Furious, the acclaimed Hulu and FX drama about a serial killer targeting a Jeffrey Epstein-esque network of predators, all while being chased by the FBI. Petticrew plays the shattered and vengeful Catherine Grace with a vulnerability that feels hauntingly real. Let’s just say their costar isn’t the only Emmy that Petticrew might find herself near in the future, because the awards buzz is strong. Soon, you can see them in Netflix’s forthcoming adaptation of the enormously popular Assassin’s Creed video game.
“This year I did a job that made me overcome a lot of fears,” Petticrew says. ”It was something totally different for me, and I’m proud I let myself jump into it with all I have.”
Although Petticrew’s work might be in front of more eyeballs now, they were already an award-winning actor before Furious, starring in A24’s Tuesday with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and earning two IFTA Awards for the series Trespasses and Say Nothing.
Their message to the world as they approach the end of a monumental year? “None of us are free until all of us are free; the only true liberation is collective liberation.” @lolapetticrew
