“I play hockey at both Olympic and professional level, but signing up for the sport I loved at such a young age has grown to be about more than just playing,” says Team USA women’s hockey captain Hilary Knight.
“Captain America,” as she’s been called, was born in Palo Alto, California, and grew up in Sun Valley, Idaho. The two-time Olympic gold medalist, three-time Olympic silver medalist, and 10-time world champion is widely considered the best female hockey player in the world.
Knight hit the clutch goal that sent the U.S. Women’s National Team into overtime at this year’s Winter Olympics, then led Team USA to its gold medal victory over Canada.
“I care deeply about pushing women’s sports forward, creating more opportunity for the next generation, and using the platform I have to leave the game better than I found it,” she says.
Knight, who is engaged to fellow U.S. Olympian and speedskater Brittany Bowe, holds Team USA records for most goals and most all-time points at the Olympics.
“I’m proud of the way I’ve continued to challenge myself, evolve, and keep raising the bar — both as an athlete and as a person.” @hillaryknight
