You’ve probably seen actor and comedian Sherry Cola on your screens — and her growing presence is worth celebrating. Whether she’s hosting or starring in shows like Apple TV+’s Shrinking, Disney Channel’s Camp Rock 3, or the 2023 comedy Joy Ride, Cola has become an increasingly familiar face. She also recently starred in the Netflix comedy Little Brother with John Cena and Eric André.

Next, Cola is set to play a true queer icon in Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story. She’s not only jazzed to be “playing a mother to the spectacular Momona Tamada” but also to be taking on the role of Yzma, the “unhinged and hilarious Disney villain” made famous by the legendary Eartha Kitt in 2000’s The Emperor’s New Groove. “I can’t wait for the world to see me bring this diva to life!”

“I’m a queer Chinese American immigrant woman who, against all odds, gets to be on TV and in movies. Wild,” says Cola, reflecting on her success. “Whenever I’m overwhelmed with what’s in front of me, I remember that all of this is still pretty new. I’m the first in my bloodline to do this. No wonder it’s challenging!”

“I keep saying that my purpose in life is to honor and celebrate my ancestors through storytelling,” she adds, “which means breaking out of every box that society tries to put me in!” @shrrycola
