Newlyweds Kit Williamson and John Halbach explore an array of options OUT for a weekend getaway in the Entertainment Capital of the World – Las Vegas. From fine dining and indulgent spa treatments to poolside R&R and nighttime revelry, Kit and John experience all the excitement Las Vegas has to offer.
The Luxor Hotel & Casino offers dining options for every case and budget, from a classic American breakfast at The Pyramid Cafe to fine dining at TENDER Steak & Seafood and post show cocktails at Centra Bar & Lounge in the heart of the casino floor. Just like the Luxor itself, every restaurant is completely unique, with its own hip approach to food and decor.
1. Pyramid Cafe
After dancing the night away at LAX nightclub next door, the Pyramid Cafe at the Luxor Hotel & Casino is the perfect place to recover the next morning. The restaurant offers elevated diner fare amidst the hustle and bustle of the casino floor. For a little hair of the dog, Pyramid Cafe offers $5 mimosas, bloody marys, screwdrivers and pyramid cocktails, which are made with Skyy Vodka and grapefruit juice.
The hearty All-American Breakfast hit the spot, with eggs made how you like them, your choice of meat, hash browns and toast, and after several cups of coffee and plates of bacon we were ready to get back to the fun.
Sitting in TENDER’s comfortable, oversized leather booths brings to mind the Las Vegas of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Start with a dirty vodka martini and the Mediterranean Vegetarian Mezza, with hummus, roasted eggplant puree, marinated olives, feta and grilled artichokes. For your main course, try the New York strip steak, the 24-ounce Black Angus porterhouse or one of their five distinct Rib eyes. Vegetarians should ask to see the special meat-free menu, which includes a multi-seed encrusted tofu steak that will make the meat eaters at the table jealous.
Growing up in Mississippi on a steady diet of side salads, I’m always pleasantly surprised to find restaurants, particularly steakhouses, that cater to vegetarians. Everything we had was excellent, but the standout was definitely the creamed corn side dish and the special; truffle mashed potatoes.
For a perfect place to end the evening, grab a couch at Centra Bar & Lounge at the center of the casino floor. The bar is lit up with dozens of multi-colored glass lanterns, complementing the lights of the slot machines nearby. The lounge also boasts nightly DJs, providing the perfect soundtrack to the night of your life.
There’s a playful atmosphere and a lack of pretentiousness at this sophisticated cocktail bar, with board games including giant Jenga and Connect Four placed on the tables for your amusement, as well as poker and video slot games at the bar.
