You Can Now Fly on a Plane with Harvey Milk’s Face on It
Milk is Norwegian’s newest Tail Fin Hero.
His name is Harvey Milk and he's here to show you where the life vests are!
Legendary gay civil rights activist Harvey Milk is the newest "tail fin hero" to be commemorated by Norwegian Airlines as part of their program celebrating artists, activists, and thinkers throughout history. Milk's visage will grace the fin of a brand new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
"Harvey Milk's mission was reflective of a pioneering spirit. He demonstrated a tireless hunger to look past the differences of people and instead focus on bringing them together for the greater good," says Norwegian CEO and founder Bjorn Kjos. "We can't think of a better way to honor Harvey Milk's bravery and courage than to dedicate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to his legacy of equal rights -- a tribute that will span the globe for years to come, reinforcing our joint commitment to making the world a smaller, friendlier and more inclusive place."
"We are proud to partner with Norwegian, having Uncle Harvey join the airline's forward-thinking Tail Fin Hero program," says Stuart Milk, co-founder of the Harvey Milk Foundation and the late activist's nephew. "This is such a unique way to educate and celebrate those that have come before us, allowing for their legacies to live on. We look forward to seeing Harvey 'flying' into airports across the globe and continuing to spread his message of acceptance."
In the past, the Tail Fin Hero program has celebrated legends including Mark Twain, Charles Lindbergh, Arthur Collins, Babe Ruth, Clara Barton, Sojourner Truth and Benjamin Franklin.
Milk's Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which will join the fleet also features custom art inspired by Milk's life and legacy, giving passengers the chance to learn more about the American hero. In addition to the artistic tribute, Norwegian will partner with the Harvey Milk Foundation to expand their own advocacy efforts.
