Pride celebrations were underway in Los Angeles last night as the LGBT community descended upon West Hollywood for the official LA Pride event, but thousands were turned away from the festivities after hours of waiting due to overcrowding. On Sunday, the city of West Hollywood issued an apology, citing safety and security concerns.

According to tweets from the scene of the festivities, police were clearing the streets and threatening to arrest those who wouldn't leave.

Saturday night's Pride celebration included performances by Kehlani, Kim Petras, Icona Pop and Superfruit.
