The couple had been engaged nearly as long as they'd been together, with Otunga, who also appeared on a season of VH1's I Love New York, proposing to Hudson in 2008 after less than a year of dating. Their only son was born almost a year later in August of 2009.

"Mr. Otunga never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today's climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties' only child," read a statement released to PEOPLE from Otunga's attorney, Tracy M. Rizzo.
