The Pride of Place project recognizes places once neglected because of their queer significance.

The home of Oscar Wilde is among several sites being recognized for its historic significance to LGBTQ England. It comes as part of Pride of Place, a queer history project undertaken by Historic England. Also included are the homes of Benjamin Britten, Gerald Schlesinger, and Anne Lister, as well as the grave of Amelia Edwards.

"Too often, the influence of men and women who helped build our nation has been ignored, underestimated or is simply unknown, because they belonged to minority groups," Historic England Chief Executive Duncan Wilson told The Guardian. "Our Pride of Place project is one step on the road to better understanding just what a diverse nation we are, and have been for many centuries. At a time when historic LGBTQ venues are under particular threat, this is an important step."

Historic England also created an app, Queer Soho, a tourist's guide to the area's queer residents from over the past 130 years.
