Gay Nigerian Man Shares Story: 'It Was Difficult For Me to Maintain My Apartment'

Brooklyn Community Pride Center has launched a project that shares the stories of new, queer Americans.

Although the current election cycle proves the United States can be a scary place, we must remember that it remains a country of refuge and possibility. When you identify as queer, many other locales are not safe to visit, live, and be yourself.

Brooklyn Community Pride Center is providing a platform for new Americans who've come to this country seeking asylum. In the first video of their new series, LGBTQ New Americans: Oral History Project, Oliver from Nigeria tells his story. As a gay man, he was publicly humiliated and a victim of housing discrimination.
