With the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States, Russian YouTubers ChebuRussiaTV decided to remind us that homosexuals in other parts of the world don't have much to celebrate.
As a social experiment, two young Russian dudes innocently strolled through the streets of Moscow, hand-in-hand. Reactions range from hostile stares to homophobic expletives to full-on violence. At one point, one of the young men expresses fear for his safety after being shoved by a particularly ornery pedestrian.
Though the gays are the least of Russia's problems -- an unstable economy and an even more unstable, shirtless horseback-riding megalomaniac as a president immediatley come to mind -- a controversial law banning so-called "gay propaganda" around children has exacerbated homophobia in the world's ninth most populous nation.

As if to really drive the point home, add insult to injury and just to be real piece of shit, Vlad Putin and co. unveiled their "straight pride" flag last week, bearing the hashtag "#realfamily":
"This is our answer to same sex marriages, this mockery of the very concept of family," activist Aleksey Lisovenko said. "We must prevent gay fever in our country and support traditional values."
Sigh. Just that level of ignorance and stupidity is infuriating, but to see that blind hatred manifested at the simple act of holding someone's hand is truly heartbreaking.
