"Loving who you want to love is part of being true to yourself."
Social media star Maggie Lindemann released this week a music video for her single "Pretty Girl," offering an empowering anthem and inclusive storyline about the complexity of women. "Fuck your ribbons and your pearls," she sings on the track. "'Cause I'm not just a pretty girl; I'm more than just a picture; I'm a daughter and a sister."
Lindemann's video features a number of diverse women, including two queer lovers, echoing the singer's own bisexuality. In October last year, she opened up to her fans on Periscope, saying "I have liked girls my entire life since I was like five. I've always just looked at girls like anyone looks at boys."
Speaking about her decision to include a lesbian romance, Lindemann told OUT, "I felt it was important to depict that there's no wrong way to be a woman, and girls shouldn't feel pressured to fit into any boxes just because society tells them to. Loving who you want to love is part of being true to yourself."
