Here's some key words to think about while watching Bjork's new "Arisen My Senses" video: phallus, womb, slug, tongue, Arca's ass, umbilical cord, flame, fetus, apocaplypse.
The video is directed by longtime Bjork collaborator Jesse Kanda, who digitally designed the video's central phallic womb/ interlocking tongues sculpture that was then created in real life out of silicone. Bjork can first be found warmly enveloped within this moving, sexual structure, before emerging to smile into a planet of flaming reds and oranges while gleefully licking her lips. The central sculpture of the film "depicts the cycle of death, mating, and birth as one," according to a press release.
Equally important to note is Arca's presence in this music video. He worked heavily as a producer on this album and this song, and appears in the film in a latex bondage-inspired ensemble, connected to Bjork's copulating womb by a twisting umbilical cord. He then finds time to bow down to Bjork against the backdrop of a sky in flames.
"Arisen My Senses" follows equally striking videos for "Utopia," "Blissing Me," and "The Gate"--if we're lucky, we could be on track to end up with a fully realized visual album from this team of legends.
