Netflix has been obsessed with pageantry this year, between the soapy drama of Insatiable and the reality show hijinks of Dancing Queen, competitions serving hyper-realized femininity are all the rage on the streaming service. Next month, Netflix is bringing another pageant queen to screens both big and small as Jennifer Aniston stars in Dumplin' as a former pageant queen whose plus-size daughter Dumplin' (Patti Cake$' Danielle Macdonald) decides to start competing as an act of rebellion -- with the help of a few drag queens (aka "the closest thing you can get to Dolly Parton around here," which is some serious tea). The trailer makes Dumplin' look like the kind of incisive, hilarious and potentially heartwarming take on pageants Insatiable was only kind of trying to be, plus Jennifer Aniston!
Dumplin' hits Netflix and select theaters December 7.
