In honor of National Coming Out Day, turn your attention to First Night Out, an award-winning short film from filmmakers Ian Scott McGregor and Will Mayo.
Featured at both OutFest and NewFest, as well as many other film festivals worldwide, this short film is the perfect way to celebrate those brave enough to step out into the world as who they are.
In the film, a transgender woman has her "first night out," eating dinner alone at what is presumably a local diner and later asking the waitress to take her photo with a disposable camera.
According to McGregor, the film is inspired by a true story. This comes as no surprise, as the film is incredibly real with undertones of anxiety and vulnerablity while still celebrating this woman who is brave enough to be herself.
