Alan Ball’s New Stripper Gig

His fleshy vampire series will be ending in 2014, but the show’s gay creator has new projects up his sleeve

The epic "popcorn for smart people" parade of eye candy that is True Blood will end in 2014. But creator Alan Ball has got a new project that also deals with lots of flesh, and probably a few soul-sucking vampires, this time of the metaphorical variety. I Am Chippendales is an adaptation of the Rodney Sheldon book about Steve Banerjee who ran the first Chippendales club, and the fame and wealth it brought him made him paranoid. He eventually hired a hit man to kill a choreographer, and he was arrested. Deadline Hollywood describes it as a project "that sounds like a mix between Magic Mike and Scarface." Hopefully heavy on the Magic Mike part.

In a subsequent project, Ball is also going to direct I Dream of Gene, a comedy genie-and-the-lamp tale. Barbara Eden as the genie in I Dream of Jeannie was a total blonde sexpot, but "Gene" holds more promise for those of us hoping that when we rub the lamp we'll be presented with a built Middle Eastern dude in translucent harem pants. We've seen the men of True Blood, so we know Ball can be trusted in the lusty fleshpot arena.
