Pop singer-songwriter Halsey has been privately battling an illness for the last two years, and revealed it Tuesday with the release of her newest single, "The End."

Halsey shared the news on Instagram with the caption, "long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. short story long, I wrote an album. it begins with 'The End.' Out now."

The Instagram carousel features videos where she’s rubbing her legs, her first day of treatment, crying, and in the recording studio. "I feel like an old lady," she said. "I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick... I’m having a rebirth, and I’m not going to be sick, and I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy and I’m just going to get to redo my twenties in my thirties."

Their new song, "The End," opens with the lyrics, "Every couple of years now/a doctor says I'm sick/Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks/And then they lay it on me/And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain/And I don't like to complain, but I'm saying sorry."

Though they didn't explicitly name the illness they're battling, Halsey announced she's making a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Lupus Research Alliance via a press release. The Daily Beast reports the illness as lupus.
