This week, that's the big story down under: The brief, same-sex marriage of a sports champion and her socialite wife, reportedly wrecked by an affair with another woman.
And not just any woman: The scandal rocking the national cricket team, just a week after winning the World Cup, centers on revelations that its vice captain, Ashleigh Gardner, reportedly confessed to her wife Monica Wright that she had an affair with another player on the team, Georgia Voll. And that shocking news dashed Wright's hopes of having a child with Gardner.
Although these reports are only surfacing this week, the breakup was in November, reported the Daily Mail, which said their messy separation has left the Australian womenās cricket team, the most successful in the sport, in total disarray. They defeated England on July 5, and Gardner and Voll posted photos with their other teammates on Instagram to celebrate their seventh championship victory.
According to the story, this all started late last year when Wright flew to India to attend Australiaās Cricket World Cup campaign and support her wife, unaware at that time what was happening off the pitch.
"It was a little bit weird," a source told the British tabloid. "Monica sat next to Georgia at one point. She was being friendly, as she normally is. It felt like something was off with Ash, but we thought it was just the pressure of the World Cup."
Unfortunately, India's team sent Australia packing in the 2025 semi-finals, and when Gardner returned to Sydney, the source claims that's when she allegedly informed Wright about her affair.
"When they got home, Ash said, 'Hey, look, can we talk?' She sat Monica down and said, 'I messed up,'" according to the source.
"Ash left one day. Monica came home and everything of Ash's was gone, except for the rings. She left the wedding rings in the cupboard. Just the box of wedding rings, and that was it," said the source. Wright, who is said to be ādistraught,ā revealed the affair on Monday with a bombshell post on social media.
She posted a photo of Voll on her Instagram, captioned: āThis is who my wife cheated on me with.ā Then she added, "Nah this shit is too vague. Iāll tell you exactly what happened.ā

Wright spilled all the tea, stating that her wife's affair with her teammate began in India last year. Since Monday's Instagram post by Wright, she and Gardner have removed all photos of their wedding and engagement from their individual accounts. Their home in Sydney is reportedly empty, according to the New York Post, which also said senior team officials are aware of the allegations of an affair and have been for some time.
The couple reportedly were about to start a family before their separation, but the source told the Daily Mail that Gardner has since abandoned the plan.
"They were about to go to the fertility clinic. They had a booking that Monica had to cancel," their source told the tabloid.
Wright, Gardner, and Voll did not return requests for comment.
