This lighter version of Tom Ford's now-classic Black Orchid keeps all the mysterious appeal of the original, making it simply more wearable (and gender-bending) than ever. Black Orchid Eau de Toilette by Tom Ford, 3.4 fl. oz., $132, TomFord.com
A green, oceanic scent inspired by foxgloves, also known as digitalis, a plant traditionally used to chase woodland spirits such as elves --and fairies. In fragrance form, it turns out to be a rather attractive combination of iris, neroli, and violet leaf. Digitalis by Parfums Quartana, 1.7 fl. oz., $145, available at Six-scents.com
This September, the man behind Jean Paul Gaultier's über-popular Le Mâle launches two new fragrances inspired by Paris, Petit Matin and Grand Soir. The latter is a sexy option for your nocturnal adventures, encapsulating the effervescence of a 'big night' on the town with golden amber, tonka bean from Brazil, and a hint of vanilla. If you can't make it to the City of Lights, let the lights come to you. Grand Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, 2.4 fl. oz., $215, available at NeimanMarcus.com
For its first masculine fragrance since 2008, Cartier decided to pay tribute to the legendary Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, a pioneer who invented (and tested) hot air balloons and other early air travel devices at the turn of the 20th century. Nose Mathilde Laurent came up with a breezy and comforting scent, with notes of honey, guaiac wood, and musk. It's a complete winner, from the see-through refillable bottle, which seems to keep the fragrance in levitation, to the lasting effect its smell will make on your next date. L'Envol de Cartier, 3.3 fl. oz., $132, available at Nordstrom from August 15th
With top notes of chrysanthemum and orris, Christopher Chong's latest creation is an ode to surrealist Chinese opera. It dries down into a sensual, smokey leather scent, merging influences from Middle-Eastern and Chinese culture. Myths for Man by Amouage, 3.4 fl. oz., $310 at Amouage.com
