New 'The Prince' Trailer Shows Film as Brutal, NSFW Prison Drama

Stll from The Prince.

Set in 1970s Chile, this film and trailer are definitely not safe for work.

The new trailer for The Prince just dropped and the homoerotic prison drama set in 1970s Chile pulls no punches with plenty of NSFW shower and sex scenes. Based on a lurid and erotic pulp novel from the era by Mario Cruz, The Prince follows young Jaime, who is sent to prison for the murder of his friend. While there he encounters violence, debauchery, love, and acceptance that in ways becomes a personal discovery behind bars. Directed by Sebasitian Munoz, who also cowrote the screenplay with Luis Barrales, the film won the prestigious Queer Lion Prize at the Venice International Film Festival, and stars Juan Carlos Maldonado as Jaime, the young Prince. Having been already been amde available widely in America via DVD and on other platfoms, the new trailer is in preparaton for a U.K. release.

The film is an edgy and at times confrontational drama set in a institutionalized world of homoeroticism, and is filled with plenty of flesh showing in grungy communal showers, graphic depictions of sex (including rape), and brutal prison guards who regularly engage in acts of violence against the prisoners. The movie is set just before Salvador Allende was seated as president of Chile by the country's legislature after he received a plurality of votes in the general election. He was later deposed in a violent military coup by General Augustin Pinochet and allegedly supported by the then-President Richard Nixon and the CIA.

Once behind bars for a crime he may or may not have committed, Jaime soon learns what it takes to survive the brutality of prison.

"To survive here, you need to be a macho," Jaime is advised on his first night in prison by his older cellmate known as the Stud. The two share a bunk that evening. The film becomes a whirlwind of sex, violence, brutality, and self-discovery as the young Prince is bounced from cell to cell, discovering both the power of his new sexuality as well as the truth about himself. The Prince also contains a series of flashback scenes slowing revealing the past that sent Jaime to prison.
