Performance artist of the Week: AB Soto
I saw him perform a few weeks ago in Brooklyn. He is so cute! The dancing and the styling is super fresh and street. And he uses all the kids, queens, and queers from my neighborhood in his music videos. It's just campy fun!
Gallery of the Week: Phillip Lorca diCorcia at David Zwirner
It's his Hustler series which I have seen in books and during photo history in college, but this was the first time I got to see them in person. Would love to own one for my apartment.
Re-Read of the Week: Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion
A friend suggest I read the essay "Goodbye to All That" because I have been feeling nostalgic and a little out of place... It's such a nice autumn read!
Bar of the Week: Pine Box in Bushwick
They have all the football games on TVs, play metal and rock 'n' roll, serve vegan and vegetarian empanadas, AND they allow dogs inside the bar! It's my dog Elvis's favorite spot to see people and be seen!
Model of the Week: Simonas Pham
I love his freckles. His cheekbones. His interesting ethnic background: half Vietnamese and half Lithuanian. He's so major!
Photo book of the week: Herbert List The Monograph
Picked this up during a date in DUMBO at the P.S. Bookshop, one of my favorite bookstores. The photos are so graphic, elegant, sexy, and perfect. It's amazing how much his work predates Herb Ritts and Mapplethorpe, and yet he seems, to me, to be less known. His photos of male youth are absolutely stunning.
Cookies of the week: Ginger Cookies with Pumpkin
I found this recipe a few years ago on Oprah.com. I do two eggs instead of one and the cookies come out really soft and cakey, like a whoopie pie. I smash a glob of vanilla ice cream between two to make an ice cream sandwich. Everyone seems to love them around this time of year!
