Bouchra Jarrar to Leave Lanvin After Just Two Collections

After less than a year and a half since it was announced she'd be taking over as Lanvin's artistic director, Bouchra Jarrar is leaving the famed French fashion house, WWDreports. She'd shown just two collections with the brand, both a sharp step away from the elaborate gowns of her predecessor, Alber Elbaz.

Jarrar shut down her own label to work exclusively on reinvigorating Lanvin after she was announced as Elbaz' replacement in March 2016, but without the support of investors was unable to reignite passion in the troubled label, which last year posted a drop in revenue of 23 percent, according to Business of Fashion.

"I have pressure... I wanted to dedicate my whole self to Lanvin, to relaunch the maison and brand, so I shut my own label down," she told the South China Morning Postin March. "But I need the whole house's support; alone it's impossible."

Jarrar was made an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France just last week, and is recognized around the world as an extremely talented designer - however, her minimalistic approach is a majorly different approach to couture from Elbaz, who, over his 14 years at Lanvin, established himself as a leader in creating glamorous, eye-catching pieces that hardly screamed "less is more."

As of yet, Jarrar and Lanvin have yet to comment on the news.
