The live-action film version of 1985-1988s cartoon classic Jem and the Holograms is well underway, and while there's no word yet on the inclusion of keyboard guitars, we do know who has been cast as the lead: Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples will play Jem/Jerrica.The other Holograms will be Stefanie Scott (Disney's A.N.T. Farm) as Jem's sister, Kimber; Aurora Perrineau (Pretty Little Liars) as Shana; and Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters, Wizards of Waverly Place) as Aja.Filming is already underway according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The producers said in March that the film's story is about an orphaned girl, who (like Justin Bieber) becomes an online musical sensation, and embarks on a cross-country search with her sisters for a last message from her father. No word yet about the Misfits and their painted-on cheekbones. The whole project is being re-envisioned "for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age."
