She shall not, she shall not be moved. Joan Rivers, in protest of store's refusal to sell her New York Times bestseller, I Hate Everyone ... Starting With Me, made an unannounced visit to a Burbank Costco, megaphone and handcuffs in tow. She signed copies of her books and cuffed herself to a cart, until a cop escorted her off the premises.
The store has banned the book because of two made up quotes on the book's back cover. One, from Marie Antoinette, reads, "Let Her Eat Shit." The other, from Wilt Chamberlain, says "If I were alive, even I wouldn't fuck her."
"This is a store that sells 300 rolls of toilet paper at the same time, and I say any customer that buys 300 rolls of toilet paper deserves a funny book to sit on the toilet and read," said the 79-year-old comic.
Though Rivers believes that her First Amendment rights were violated, she will not boycott the store. She tells KABC, "I am a Costco cardholder. I have bought my condoms there and will continue to do so. I am an avid, avid shopper in their sex toy department."
