Frenchie Davis, who's made waves on television shows like American Idol and The Voice, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that she's in a relationship with a woman.
"I wasn't out before the relationship, but I wasn't in," she tells the newspaper, "I dated men and women, though lesbians weren't feeling the bisexual thing. Now I'm in love with a woman I think I can be with forever."
Davis has long had a connection with the LGBT community. As a student at Howard University, her closest friends were part of the community, as was her favorite professor. He took her to local drag bars where she would sing regularly. Years later, while in Rent with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's Jai Rodriguez, she took over his Chelsea cabaret act.
The singer appreciates her gay following. "I love the gays," she tells the Post-Dispatch, "I love the gay boys. They have that awesome, masculine energy, but there's also something else going on as well."
The future looks bright for Ms. Davis. Her new single, "Love's Got a Hold on Me," off her debut album comes out later this summer.
