Elisabeth Moss talks queer roles, her flirtation with Jane Lynch, and her celebrity girl crush

T minus two days until the fifth season premiere of Mad Men! But for those of you who are having a hard time waiting for this Sunday, there's no need to worry: The Advocate just interviewed Peggy!

Elisabeth Moss, who plays the ambitious feminist on AMC's hit drama, had plenty to say about the gays, as well as her own LGBT-themed roles. For instance, she didn't consider her same-sex-themed storyline with Kiera Knightley in last year's The Children's Hour to be a "lesbian story." After, all she grew up surrounded by gays (her parents were musicians), so being gay is pretty much a nonissue for her. In fact, she's even found a way to mold her religion (Scientology) around her pro-gay views: "One of the most important things I take from my church is the idea of personal freedom and our rights as human beings, and that includes the right to date a man or a woman."

With regards to Mad Men, though, Moss doesn't seem to think her character is a lesbian--despite her flirtation with a lady beatnik on the show: "I don't think Peggy's gay, but who knows? I mean, if anyone's going to be gay, it's Peggy."

Moss is surprisingly modest throughout the interview, considering her three Emmy nominations. (At one point, she says she's honored to "be in the same sentence as" Madonna.) Unfortunately, she's not allowed to reveal if there are any upcoming LGBT storylines on her hit show--but she does offer one juicy tidbit. She has a girl crush on Marion Cotillard, who she says has an "animal sexuality."
