Johnny Weir Wants to Skate as Carmen

Johnny Weir, the out Olympic figure skater who continues to dazzle the pop culture world with his flamboyant tastes, is going to take one more year off from competitive skating, he says, in order to have adequate time to reinvent himself before his return, like Madonna. But don't worry, he will still be around, keeping himself busy filming the second season of his reality show, Be Good Johnny Weir, and being the face of MAC's holiday cosmetics campaign.

He also has plans for when he does return, in time for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He recently told Time Out New York about one of his new inspirations:

I've been thinking a lot about Bizet's Carmen and actually being Carmen...I am super effeminate, but to be a Spanish lady with all that passion and fire would be such a stretch for me, and it would challenge me. I'd like that.

When asked if he thinks being openly gay will effect the judges when he returns to competition, Weir responded "I don't think it was a shock to anyone and it shouldn't have been--and it shouldn't have even been a question."
