Thou Shalt Covet: Maison Martin Margiela Wooden Wallet

What: Maison Martin Margiela Wood Wallet

Where: Por Vocacao

How much: approximately $435

Why: Once the leader of thought-provoking, cerebral design, Maison Martin Margiela has been a formidable presence in the fashion world since 1989. His mission, along with Japanese avant-gardists like Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto was to reject typical tropes associated with what was "fashionable" and "attractive" through playful experimentations with proportion, construction and material. Although the label has come under some criticisms since it was announced in 2009 that Margiela no longer designed for the brand, the house still presents some of the most interesting, outlandish and unorthodox clothing seen on runways. Some of our favorite items tend to be his accessorie -- from his futuristic sunglasses to his quirky shoes. One of his latest offerings is this wooden wallet -- the exterior having been crafted from real lacquered wood and the inside of plush leather. Margiela has never been one to make practicality a priority and this wallet proves it, but those who adore the label's subversive twist on traditional design concepts will fawn over this witty take on the classic men's staple.
