Editrix Anna Wintour has a well-known aesthetic when it comes to the celebrities she features in her magazine. Usually they're gorgeous, uber-successful, stylish and do-gooders (or Blake Lively). But recently, perhaps in an effort to move magazines or to freshen the roster of expected Vogue faces, Wintour and crew have been featuring some younger, more unexpected choices (Lady Gaga, Kristen Stewart and Rihanna have covered the last three issues). There is one fresh talent, though, who definitely is a fashion risk-taker and has just about everyone's tongues wagging: Nicki Minaj. Minaj is riding the wave of good press and critical acclaim, and even mentions the Vogue editor in her song "Muny" ("Hey, yo, Anna, hey yo Anna Wintour, I'ma need that cover baby girl, it's Pink Friday, ya dig"). It seems that behind her omnipresent oversized sunglasses, Wintour seems to have Minaj on her radar. She recently asked the rapper to perform at the Vogue-sponsored Green Auction: Bid to Save the Earth. Could this be the beginning of an unlikely courtship (and/or friendship)? We hope so...seeing Minaj get the Vogue treatment would be just too good.
