Lady Gaga Apologizes For Tweeting About Rick Genest’s Cause of Death

Early reports presumed the death was a suicide.

Last week Lady Gaga mourned the loss of her "Born This Way" music video costar, Rick Genest, on Twitter. In her tweets, after preliminary reports began circulating, Gaga attributed the actor and model's death to suicide and took the initiative to speak out against the stigma surrounding talking about mental health and depression.

Lacking a coroner's report, Gaga deleted her initial tweets over the weekend that referred to the unofficial cause of death. Friends of Genest, who was also known as "Skeleton Boy" for the intricate tattoos that covered his body, have since publicly suggested that his death, which resulted in a fall from an apartment balcony, may have been an accident.

"Out of respect for Rick's family, Rick & his legacy I apologize if I spoke too soon as there was no witnesses or evidence to support any conclusion for the cause of his death," the pop singer tweeted on Saturday. "I in no way meant to draw an unjust conclusion My deepest condolences to his entire family and friends."

Karim Leduc, Genest's manager, told Peoplethat there were "too many inconsistences around his death to rule it a suicide, and for people to jump to conclusions that rapidly was disappointing."
