"Thank you for all the love, as far as the bravery comments I want to [shout out] the people that TRULY are the MOST brave and that's black trans/queer people out there in the field everyday risking their lives for equality [and] representation," Kehlani tweeted. "Thank you for existing and embodying true love."

She continued, "As a non black passing, hetero passing person I don't get as much sh*t as others, so being named an 'icon' in these spaces, it's my duty to point viewers who may not know of the REAL icons, in those directions," the singer tweeted. "We see you, we need you, we love you. [Shout out to] the ones who inspire ME."

Kehlani listed some of her own personal queer icons, including: Gizzle, Tiffany Gouche, Laverne Cox, Ashlee Marie Preston, and Mykki Blanco. "You all inspire me daily in your art [and] presence," Kehlani said. She ended her tweet wishing her followers happy pride.
