Unreleased 3 Generations Clip Addresses Sexuality as a Transgender Teen

3 Generations
Elle Fanning in '3 Generations'

In an exclusive scene, Maggie asks questions about her son Ray's sex life.

In an unreleased scene from director Gaby Dellal's 3 Generations, Maggie storms into the kitchen questioning if her teenage trans son Ray is having sex. "Do you think they have sex," she asks, concerned--"they" refererring to teens. "I mean, at least some of the kids in Ray's class are definitely having sex, but do you think he has sex? And is which gender?"

Maggie's mother Dolly enters and begins arguing with her girlfriend about clothing she's planning to donate to Goodwill. "I don't even think I wore those," Dolly urges, as Maggie sits, blank-faced and pondering a different thought than the two. "...As in a boy or a girl?" she blurts, underlining her own confusion about Ray's gender, but not in a way that undermines his feelings--Maggie just wants to understand.
